Our Debt Snowball

Here it is in all it’s glory… our debt snowball. In the beginning, we decided to pay off our debt the Ashby way but it didn’t quite work. That’s why you’ll see our snowball here in the order Dave Ramsey would put it in, but obviously not in the order we started to pay it off. We have now realized that our way doesn’t work and we’re paying it off from smallest to largest.

OK.. you know I can’t resist..

But.. Can you please Sort the list..
AND remove to another PAID OFF section those that are..

You have your motivation all mixed up, can’t see progress in that list cause it has the old with the new.

    Keep it up!!
    V.

Good point. We’ve laid it out now where it should be easier to follow. :)

I am loving the podcast, you guys are a fun couple.
Are you guys going to start working on your Debt Snowball the right way now?
Seems like you should knock off the first three debts in a couple of months or so.

    Keep up the good work.

    John

John, we’ve definitely learned our lesson! We’re paying off our debt snowball the right way now! :)

I just love listening to your podcast. You seem like such a fun couple. Once Spence lands his big job these debts will be paid off in no time. Maybe sooner than you thought! Keep up the great work.

After I found your podcast I went back and listened from the beginning. I’m up to date with your podcasts now and have enjoyed listening to them. One question though…..is it not better to take a “decent” job that pays better and allows you a normal sleep schedule again vs. continuing to keep a newspaper route? Spence, you’re not 12 anymore…get a REAL job, even if it’s not your DREAM job.

  7. Lisa Ashby says:

    Hey Kristi,
Actually, we’re not looking for a dream job by any stretch of the imagination. We’re just looking for something that is stable and provides a good income. After doing some searching online with the BBB among other sites, we determined that the job would not be a good fit for us. We spent many years making desperate decisions because we were in desperation mode, and we’re unwilling to do it again. Spence is willing to take any job as long as it’s legit. Hope that helps to shed some light on it all!

I listened to your show up until you began opening it asking for donations to support your debt snowball. I started my snowball in Nov 2010 and am doing it on my own. I understand the need for donations for the podcast, but really, asking people to pay your debt is wrong. How about paying for the podcast with donations and DONATING the rest after the podcast bill is paid to your church or a charity.

  9. Lisa Ashby says:

    Hi Dave,
I appreciate your viewpoint. We actually removed that blurb from the intro starting with Episode 51 (the first episode of 2011) because we don’t want the donations to be all about our snowball. That being said, some of our listeners do enjoy donating to us to help our snowball because of the content we provide on our podcast, and we do put in a lot of time and effort to produce the show. So in all fairness, we do earn our donations. We will continue to do the show and provide the best content we can whether or not any of our listeners decide to donate and ultimately, we’re paying off our snowball by working hard and being diligent. I hope that helps!

Hi ! Just listened to your pod cast for the first time today. So nice to hear how others are working the Dave Ramsey System. Since I havnt listened long I am curious about your car debt. Are you upside down. My Husband and I have a Kia that we owe 9,000 dollars on more than its worth! We don’t know what to do. My husband did not know the Dave Ramsey plan before we married and he kept tacking on debt to upgrade cars. Any advice you have learned or how you are handling your car debt. Would be great to hear !
    Thanks Laura

hi guys, i’m from australia and started about a month ago working on paying off our 85k debt. i used to held a top job in the IT field but decided to trade online for a living. little did i realized that the debt we accumulated will affect us in the future.. so i made a goal and took a cleaning job at night at a school, and another one very early morning shift in an amusement park close to where i live. actually i don’t care whatever job as long as its stable enough to help me get rid of the debt as fast as i can. one significant lesson i’ve learned from taking the cleaning job though is that some of the cleaners own their own house outright and don’t use credit cards, they use cash and are actually doing better than some of the teachers i know fro the school. . anyway keep up, you’ll get there. -Daniel
