Spencer, listen to Lisa and get the two Hondas. It will be better in the long run. Those cars last forever if you maintain them properly. ….and put the extra into the snowball!
Thanks for the feedback!
Honda 1, International Scout 0
Spencer, I think Lisa has the right idea here…sorry bud, but in the nature of the game, I would vote “yes” to getting the Imperial Starship…ahem, I mean International Scout – only because I want to see pictures up on the site
YES! Wait… I think that means each of us gets equal credit? LOL So…
Honda 1.5, International Scout .5
I gotta stick with the female side on this and vote for the two Hondas. As added incentive to do the right thing, if you go with the two Hondas I’ll put enough money in your tip jar to buy Spence (or your kids!) an International Scout:

Oh, you just made my day! LOL You gave Spence a good belly laugh, too!
Honda 2.5, International Scout .5
I’m sensing white smoke pouring from the Vatican on the “which car to buy?” issue. Spence could start a “toys our wives won’t let us buy” support group with my husband.
First step: “We admit we were powerless over our needs for useless man toys—and that our financial lives have become unmanageable.”
P.S. I’ve reached out to Alcoholic Anonymous to sponsor this reply but they’ve only responded with “cease and desist” letters, whatever that means.
This just in from Facebook…. Another vote for practicality!
Honda 3.5, International Scout .5
I love that you accounted for the maintenance of the Scout, a classic, no doubt. I have a friend that is very fond of the Scout, has had several, restored one, and I’m sure would be glad to chat with you about whether your budget for maintenance would be enough to cover probable actual costs.
I love a Honda and have owned 3. Be aware that a timing belt replacement on a Honda at 100k miles can be $700-$1000.
I think a fund for maintenance is a great Idea because nothing blows a budget like unforseen expenses…and the starship may blow up on lift off…you never know!…however I do understand where lisa is coming from…..Love Hondas by the way.

Sounds like you guys are weighing the pros and cons of each, so I think that gives us equal credit.
Honda 4.5, International Scout 1.5
Have you thought about having just ONE vehicle??? If you remain flexible and keep that communication open – you should be able to make it work.
It’s just a faster way to get you to baby step 3.
If that’s a no go – then my vote is for 2 Honda’s. Sorry Spence.
We have considered it, but with Spence working 3rd shift and us barely crossing paths every day, it would make it difficult. Other than that, we would definitely do it!
Looks like the Hondas are winning by a landslide.
Counting votes from Facebook – Honda 6.5, International Scout 1.5
What are the miles on all of the cars? That should be a big deciding factor too. I know Honda’s can run for 300K miles…Scout, not so much. Also, what about the previous maintenance for the cars? If the Honda’s haven’t been taken care of, they may actually wear out faster than the Scout. Just something else to keep in mind
That’s a good point Sal. We haven’t actually pinned down a Honda yet, but pricing them out, we can afford one with around 100-130k miles on it. The Scout has 36k actual miles, so it is considerably lower.
Any mechanics out there? I’d love to know what you think about Sal’s comment and the mileage one could get out of a Honda vs a Scout.
I still think the maintenance on the Scout would be too much for our budget…

Sorry Spence,
I love you more than my last cat but as I have always said there are 2 ways to lose a debate with your wife. To lose it or to win it. Trust me on this. there is an old Southern coloquialism, “If mama aint happy, aint nobody happy”. You may have to shoehorn your man’s butt into a Honda. -:) You will like your gasoline bill better.
Hey Spence,
love you Bro and you both are doing an awesome job with the podcasts!
Im definitely for the International Scout, however if you see a vw van, get that : ) Personally, I think I outcheaped you bro, I have a 2007 Chongquing Lifan 49.5cc liquorcycle named Daisy. I worked all summer for her and she is mine free and clear (sweet 16 right?) Oh and did I mention she gets 90 miles a gallon? lol, Im gonna start a scooter gang called 50 ccs of fury
I like that philosophy, Terry! LOL So that makes:
Honda 7.5, International Scout 1.5
Christopher, if I didn’t have to drive a mom-mobile, I would have a sweet used Genuine Buddy (next best thing to a vintage Vespa!). Great job on working hard to pay CASH for Daisy! You should be very proud of yourself.
(BTW, 50 ccs of fury is an awesome name for a scooter gang!)
Hondas definitely. I’m with Lisa, sorry, Spence.
Yessssss! It’s official. I won by a landslide. LOL
Spencer, every guy want’s some old Scout, Bronco, Jeep whatever….They get like 12 miles to the gallon, not to mention you have two kids to drive around safely. Add a vote to the landslide, and someday you can have a scout with lisa’s karman ghia….
Just listened to the pod cast. . . I like the idea of the Scout, but those are not easy to get parts for if you need them. Get a Chev or Ford or something common, those trucks, like the Honda, are cheap fix and will last if you take care of them.
great shows, thanks for puting them out there! I’ve got several more to get up to date on, I started with the older ones first.
