Great podcast guys. I have a quick question for you that I was thinking about as I was listening to the podcast and driving into work. As far as the budget goes, do you guys have a certain budget software that you use or like better? Also, how do you do with keeping the funds you have listed on the envelopes, just in that envelope. For example, Dave says that eating out should be under the food envelope because, well, it is food. But many times, people will cave in and pull money from their gas fund (if they know they won’t use it all in a week) or from another fund envelope.
Anyway, got to get back to work. I can’t wait to hear about the open doors you guys are walking through at the moment, with the freelance and marketing opportunities. Talk with ya soon.
Good questions Sal! We used to use PearBudget and talked about it in a past episode, but now that Mint.com has become more feature-rich, we’re really enjoying it much more than PearBudget. Plus, it’s free, it keeps track of our savings accounts, it is capable of tracking our future investment accounts, and it lets us know where we can save money by sending emails when we’re close to budget and by giving us savings from other companies/sponsors.
I made a cash envelope but it’s kinda girly and Spence doesn’t like it much, so we’ll probably invest in one of DR’s much manlier envelopes so that we do a better job of keeping cash where it belongs. We do cave in from time to time and the perfectionist in me really hates that we do, but we’re not perfect and it’s all a learning experience. But, for the most part, once the cash is allocated and in it’s respective envelope, that’s where it stays and it normally doesn’t stray.
Great podcast you two! Once again, I found myself peeping often since Sunday to see if it had been posted. What a goober, I know! Anyway, Lisa – I just read your comment back to Sal about the girly envelopes. Check out this site / post – you might just be able to make Spence his own manly man money holder!!!

And by the way, don’t you dare worry what other people think! Much easier said than done…I’m living proof of that, but a work in progress for sure.
If you have a moment, please check out my blog post this week…it’s about knitting
Have a great week guys! You are much appreciated for your service!
I love it! Maybe I can find some manly paper to make the envelopes out of.
I’m off to check out your knitting post…
Another great podcast. I think tithing is God’s way of confounding our sensibilities about the mathematics of our finances. Spencer had it right “God will provide” and this realization that He is our provider makes all the difference. Was it just an incredible coincidence that money came your way after this? Some may say so but I think that miracles are God’s usual way of blessing people that are faithful. You guys are such an inspiration to myself and my family. We all sit on our couch and listen to all the Podcasts we have missed.
We pray for the Lord to bless you nightly.
